Acoustic Standards
France
Приєднався 27 жов 2017
This chanel is about playing the great Jazz standards from the 30s to the 50s on vintage archtop guitars (some are mine and some are borrowed). Sometimes the melody can be played in a chord melody style on the guitar, or sometimes i will sing it.
It's a long way - Frank Sinatra Cover - 1937 Epiphone Broadway
Hey guys, I’ve recorded this standard that I’ve discovered on a Frank Sinatra album long ago, on a 1946 Epiphone Deluxe that has sonic similarities with this Broadway so I thought it would be interesting to compare. I’ll put the other take as a suggestion in the end.
I’m playing a 1937 Epiphone Broadway, rare walnut back and sides model. I’ve decided to sell this guitar so drop me a line to see if it’s still available. The guitar is strung with Martin phosphore bronze Claton strings gauge 12, I’m using a Dunlop gator 0.71mm pick and the sound is captured by both a Neumann TLM 103 and a Bluebird microphone.
Feel free to support the channel if you want/can : www.paypal.me/acousticstandards
I've decided to take a couple of student for online classes so hit me up if you're interested. Contact and info : acousticstandardsinparis@gmail.com
I haven't recorded albums in the style of those acoustic standards, but i have 2 albums on bandcamp with my Django tribute Quartet : romainvuilleminquartet.bandcamp.com
The third one "Three sides of a Coin" is just out, so don't hesitate to drop me an email if you'd like a physical copy, i can ship worldwide !!
We’ve just recorded an album with a lot of these standards with piano, doublebass and drums so make sure to pre-order your copy.
I also have a youtube channel for the Django stuff with my 4tet : ua-cam.com/channels/7z3SS3VcbCNQsk3TMGzoRA.html?view_as=subscriber

What a difference a day made - 1934 Epiphone Triumph - Vintage acoustic archtop guitar
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Місяць тому
Hey guys, today I’m playing a standard from the same year as this guitar ! It was composed by Mexican singer Maria Grever in 1934 under the title « Cuando vuelva a tu lado ». I’ve heard the Dinah Washington version about a thousand times I guess. I’m playing a rare 16 inches prewar Epiphone Triumph from 1934. Interesting fact is that the Gibson equivalent (the 1934 Gibson L-7) would have a shor...

The preacher (guest Amaury Faye) - keyboard guitar duet by the sea

Hey guys, here is a little fun on the balcony of a boat sailing in Açores islands. The view was beautiful so each of us were practising on our balcony, and we finally said let's put something up on the channel, although the keyboard is SUPER CHEAP, the fun was there (good thing is that it shows that the music will always matter more than the gear). My friend Amaury Faye started to play a tune c...

Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 місяці тому
Hey guys, I’ve decided to record another version of this standard since the one I did on the 1937 Gibson Super 400 was one of the very first acoustic standards, so hopefully the playing should be better on this one. The standard is called « East of the sun » and was composed in 1934 by Brooks Bowman. I’m playing a 1942 D’Angelico Excel (17 inches, parallel braced, short scale), with D’Addario F...

Love this song. Very interesting chord voicings. I played guitar for quite a long time but just got into gypsy jazz, Django Reinhard etc. Learning some tunes now (e.g. Swing 42) and a lot of new jazz chords :) Also looking into acoustic archtops. Your Epiphone Blackstone is quite beautiful and sounds very nice! Do you still have it? If you ever want to sell it I would be interested :)
Hey thanks ! I have it yes, not planning to sell it at the moment but if i do i ll try to drop you a message ! I ll sell the broadway 37 soon i guess
Wonderful! Thank you. It would be a great bonus if somehow you could switch guitars half way through, so you each played a lead and a rhythm part on each guitar. This would better illustrate how the guitars respond to your 2 different attacks/ styles. Just an idea🙏
Yeah could be an idea
Bravo, merci
Fantastic!
Good one! I forgot about that tune. I definitely prefer the 1946 .. rounder sound, less truncated. BTW: if you like early X-braced L-5s, I have a 1936 I'd sell. It's in good shape, with the original case. It's bright and loud, with a somewhat narrow bandwidth.
I'm on this one too, the 1946 sounded better. Brilliant playing though from both of you guys!
Nice !
Thanks
On veut la l12p
Ahahah il y a des request je vois ! On risque de s exécuter oui
Nice work, guys!
Thanks!
Exceptional !!
Very nice. I like the guitar you’re playing it had a more mellow sound. The one Clement is playing is a bit more sharp sounding but also very nice. Parallel bracing compared to X?
Exactly, Clement is playing the x braced that is a bit more sharp, and the other has bigger bass and is parallele
Scale length affects string tension so a difference there as well as different strings being used . Also, in those days every Gibson was slightly different than others of the same model
Gorgeous, fellows! Thanks. I love Clement's comping over your solo.
Круто!
Гитара лишняя. Баян прекрасен.

Nice. A traditional country standard. You'd probably enjoy Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams", too.
Wow, the resonance, timbre, full rich sound emenates from that flat top. Nice vocals as well. Thank you!
Hey thanks

Very Nice. Well done Romain.
❤🎶❤ Les premières notes séduisent mes oreilles 👍 Trop bien cette interprétation 👏👏👏 Un grand MERCI pour l’existence de cette chaîne UA-cam que j’aime particulièrement 🙏🙏🙏
Merci Brigitte ! Et merci beaucoup pour ton courrier !!!!!
Boucher probably one of the best flattops you can own. Way beyond a Martin. Just my opinion.
I love it !!
@@AcousticStandardsme too! Especially in your hands 🫡🤝
Maybe … but don’t forget, it’s still a copy of Martin 😉
@@Jimi_7-7-7 So what...sound and value for $$$ is all that matters. Martin lost their Mojo when their guitars routinely lose to Eastmans which are 1000s less.
yee haw for sure, well done Romain.
You beat me to the "yee haw" 🤠 Helluva guitar he's got there.
